What's next?....

Knowledge on microbial remediation has undergone rapid growth, and will continue to do so into the future. Recent developments in all aspects of the technology have seen improvements in the application and understanding of this science. As recent as 2010, discoveries were found in using electrokinetics to encourage microbial populations’ removal of toxins. This study resulted in finding an improvement in the rate at which toxins were removed, with bacteria removing contaminants via electroosmosis (Kim et al., 2010). Studies such as this will continue to enable microbial remediation and bioremediation to expand as environmentally friendly remediation approaches become a necessity and not just an alternative option.
